Guide

Hockey club membership payments.

Junior and adult field hockey, with a family rate if you want one, for a season that usually starts in September. The club downloads a list when Hockey Ireland or an insurer asks.

The season

Field hockey is usually played from September to April. Some clubs also run summer hockey. Juvenile and adult teams often renew together. Set the dates to the year you are collecting for.

On subs.ie you set the season dates and a due date. Email reminders count from that due date. They go out on the days you choose, never more than one every three days, and they stop once the member has paid.

Juvenile, adult and family rates

A club usually has a junior player, an adult player and a family rate, and sometimes a social or pavilion membership for non-players. You name each one and set the price.

The club names each membership and sets the price. A type can have a minimum age, a maximum age, or both, checked on a date you choose. A family membership is one price. You can limit how many adults and how many children it includes. An adult, for that count, is 18 or over on that date. On other memberships you can cap what a household pays, so a family is not charged more than the amount you choose.

Members can pay the full amount by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. A treasurer can record cash, a bank transfer or a cheque, and those payments have no online fee. A membership can be split into 2 to 10 monthly payments of at least €5. Members only see instalments once that option is switched on for the club. The detail is in Instalments for club fees.

Registration and insurance

This page is for field hockey. Clubs register with Hockey Ireland. Ice hockey is a different sport, with the Irish Ice Hockey Association. Any registration or insurance amount is a price you set. subs.ie does not look up Hockey Ireland's fee.

Questions

When do hockey clubs usually collect membership fees?

Most field hockey clubs collect for a September start and play through to the spring. Summer hockey can be the same membership or a separate one, with its own price.

Can adults and children be different prices?

Junior, adult and family rates are the usual split. A social membership can cover non-players. Each membership has its own price and its own age rule, checked on a date you set. A family membership is one price. You can limit how many adults and children it includes, and you can cap what a household pays.

Does subs.ie register players with Hockey Ireland?

No. Registration with Hockey Ireland stays with the club. A governing body number can be stored on the member and is included in the registration spreadsheet. You download the file. subs.ie does not send it.

What does a hockey club pay for an online payment?

One fee on each online payment, including VAT and the card fees. The club decides whether it covers that fee or the member sees it as its own line. Cash, a bank transfer or a cheque recorded by the treasurer has no online fee. The pricing page shows the rate.
